Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was blessed to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill corner approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
